Oh, Tokyo, the land of sushi and ramen, some of my favorite foods! While there I went to many restaurants and I am super pumped to share the ones I went to and would recommend for your trip to Tokyo!
Ramen:
Ippudo: Located in various districts, Ippudo is a ramen haven that offers a perfect blend of rich flavors and perfectly textured noodles. The ambiance and attention to detail in each bowl make it a must-visit for any ramen enthusiast.
Ichiran: For a personalized ramen experience, Ichiran allows you to customize your bowl according to your preferences. The individual booths create an intimate dining experience, allowing you to savor the flavors without distractions.
Katsu:
Agezuki: This place is truly worth the wait. The space was small and we had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated but once inside the food was spectacular. The katsu was given pre-cooked but still raw in the middle for you to cook to your preference. The sauces to dip it in were amazing and I would recommend stopping here!
Sushi:
Sushiro: Sushiro is a conveyor belt sushi haven where you can indulge in a variety of fresh and affordable sushi options. The constant flow of plates and the interactive dining experience make it a fun and delicious choice.
Kura: Known for its conveyor belt sushi with an abundance of options at budget-friendly prices, Kura is a favorite among locals. The unique system of ordering through a touch screen adds a modern twist to the traditional sushi experience. While we were there we got about 30 plates of sushi for $20 and they were each amazing!
Convenience Store Treats:
Pastries, Onigiri, and Coffee to Go: Tokyo's convenience stores are a treasure trove of delectable treats. From flaky pastries to convenient onigiri and a quick coffee fix, these stores offer a wide array of options for a tasty and convenient meal on the go. This was a stop we made each morning to grab some coffee and onigiri, my favorite is the kimchi!
Egg Sandwich: Don't miss out on the quintessential Japanese convenience store egg sandwich. The simplicity of its ingredients belies its deliciousness, making it a perfect snack or breakfast option.
Coffee:
Starbucks at Shibuya Crossing: Although it's often super busy, the view from the Shibuya crossing Starbucks is unmatched! Watch everyone crossing the street by the thousands and enjoy a cup of coffee at the same time!
Vending machines:
Throughout Tokyo and Japan, you will find drink vending machines everywhere! While there I discovered my new favorite drink Yuzu Sparkling Water! Yuzu is a Japanese lemon so this is like lemon sparkling water and it's so refreshing and addictive! The machines also offer coffees of all kinds both hot and cold! There are also vending machines for raw meats that are often found outside of restaurants where they will cook them for you or you can just take it home!
Breakfast:
Flippers: Indulge in the joy of fluffy and jiggly pancakes at Flippers. These pancakes are a breakfast dream come true, and the variety of options from sweet to savory. There's an option no matter the time of day!
Mister Donut: For a breakfast that satisfies your sweet tooth, Mister Donut is the place to be. Mochi donuts, with their delightful chewiness, are a standout among the many tempting options.
Street Food:
Dango: No culinary journey through Tokyo is complete without sampling dango, a traditional Japanese sweet. You can find it almost anywhere, and the combination of chewy rice dumplings and sweet soy-based glaze is a delightful street food experience. If you see it I recommend grabbing it!
Train Station:
While taking a train to Kyoto we stopped at the train station to grab some bento boxes, tarts, and other treats for the ride! I would highly recommend stopping by the market located inside Tokyo Main Station and finding some foods that you want to try! We got two bento boxes, some dumplings, tarts, and sushi!
