New Orleans Guide

Updated: Feb 21

When I went to New Orleans I went for a Bachelorette Trip, we were not looking to go to Bourbon Street every night but to see what New Orleans had to offer! With that being said here are my recommendations for things we enjoyed and some things I would do differently the next time I go!

Stay:

When staying in New Orleans there are a lot of different areas to choose from. There is the French Quarter, Warehouse District, Business District, Central city, Lower Garden District, and the Garden District. Each offers something different and distinct and depending on what you want to do in New Orleans there are different places I would recommend. So here are the districts broken down by what is around them and what I would recommend!

French Quarter:

If you want to be right in the center of town I would recommend staying in this area! It is bustling and loud and more expensive because it is very central but if you are not looking to rent a car or drive to New Orleans this is where I would recommend. Most restaurants will be here as well as shopping and many of the main attractions.

Warehouse District:

This area was a bit far from central New Orleans and I overall would not recommend staying in this area. It is a long walk in both directions to get anywhere and can be hit or miss on the quality of stays in the area. If you’re a group of girls, I would not recommend staying here.

Business District:

This is the area I ended up staying in and it was very close to central New Orleans while still being on the quieter side with not as much nightlife around it. If you’re wanting to be close to attractions but not pay the steeper prices I would recommend staying in this area! There are also a lot of parking options around here!

Central City:

I would not recommend staying here it is very far from everything and there are no attractions in that direction so you will be out of the area most of your trip.

Lower Garden District/Garden District:

If I were to go back to New Orleans this is the area I would stay in! This area is gorgeous! The stays are beautiful, and the scenery is breathtaking! It is far from the main city but there is a lot of transportation that will take you directly to it so if you are ok with that, I think it’s the best option! There is also so much to see in the garden district, so you won’t be traveling into the central part every day!

Food

When going to New Orleans I was looking forward to eating all the Cajun food and beignets I could! My dad and sister had been a few months earlier and had a bunch of recommendations for me as well. All the places we went ended up being amazing and if I go back there are so many I will be visiting again. So here are all my food recommendations for New Orleans!

Café beignet

I would recommend this over café du monde, the beignets were a lot fluffier and more made to order. The line at Café Du Monde can get long and they are making such large quantities it is just not up to par with café Beignet.

Café Du Monde

The line here can get long but I do think it’s worth it for the experience and if for nothing else to compare to café beignet and see how different the two are!

Birdys

Great Brunch spot, they have bottomless mimosas and super cute outdoor seating!

St.Roch Market

This market is the perfect place to go if you're with a group that can't decide which type of food to get! This market had so many options and I went to to multiple stalls to try different items and all of them were amazing!

Roosevelt Hotel-Fountain Lounge

If you are in New Orleans on a Monday night I highly recommend going to the Fountain Lounge for their basket of chicken! This fried chicken was some of the best I have ever had and it comes with red beans, slaw, and biscuits. The portions are huge and it is very affordable for the quality and amounts you are getting!

Lilette

This is more of a fancy spot but so worth the splurge! If you go you have to get the passionfruit crab claws, and I got the delicious burger!

Brennan’s

Unfortunately, we did not get to go here because we didn’t get reservations far enough out but this a staple for New Orleans and I have heard nothing but good things about it and their bananas foster!

Commanders palace

This is another great place to go if you want classic New Orleans dishes.

Dooky Chase

Looking for fried chicken this is the place to go! This is the quintessential Cajun fried chicken and if you’re in town you have to go!

Pool Club

This rooftop bar was located in the Virgin Hotel, and it was such a fun experience! The view is amazing and it's a great spot for getting drinks at sunset!

The Spotted Cat Music Club/ Palm Court

Frenchmen Street in general is a great place to go at night if you’re looking for something more lowkey than Bourbon Street. So many musicians are out playing both on the street and in bars it was so much fun to wander and sit at the outdoor seating listening to music! There is also an art market that is often open on the street!

Carousel Bar

The Carousel bar was super cool but very crowded, we popped in to check it out but ended up leaving soon after because there was just no seating, especially at the Carousel. So if you do want to go I would recommend going in the afternoon you will have a better chance of getting a seat!

Attractions

Besides simply walking around New Orleans's French district and garden district here are a few places I would recommend you see!

St.Louis Cathedral

This site is so beautiful and hard to miss if you are wandering around the central area. You can go inside but we opted not to just walk around it!

Audobon Park

Such a nice place to go for a walk if the weather is nice great views and beautiful trees!

Ogden Museum of Art

Museum of Art

St. Louis #3 Cemetery Bayou St. John

There are many tours you can get for any of the cemeteries, and it was honestly such a cool experience! So many intricately designed tombs and it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

Ghost Tour

Unfortunately, our ghost tour got canceled due to a tornado but we booked with Haunted Tour History and they have a lot of different options!

Here are some more photos from all over New Orleans!

I hope your time in New Orleans is amazing and that is guide gives you some ideas on places to stop by on your trip!
